Flashspoter - The Devil May Cry anime series was formally made available by Netflix globally on April 3, 2024, which is an absolute delight for fans to see the return of a universe filled with vibrant action, gothic elements and familiar characters from Capcom's famous game series. The new facet of the story is accompanied by eye-catching graphics, gore-filled fight scenes, and a very faintly mysterious vibe. Dante is back in action, and this time it's not just his sword and gun that are hot, but his emotions that are on fire.
From the first day of airing, the series recorded a score of 94% from critics and 64% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. The figure is fairly solid for the size of the game adaptation, although many viewers admitted that they were surprised by the ending that felt “hanging”.
Ending Hanging: Vergil Appears, White Rabbit Falls
The last Episode shows an epic battle between Dante and the White Rabbit only one could win, the latter being a brand new enemy with an eye-catching design and abilities suitable for the final boss. They fight gruesomely to the point where the White Rabbit discloses that Vergil, Dante's twin brother, is alive.
This is a huge throwback for the fans of the game. The fight of Dante and Vergil is the main line of the story in Devil May Cry 3 and it goes on through DMC 5, their relationship being the most complex one all the time: brothers and rivals, enemies and allies.
Dante got the power of Devil Trigger, an emblematic mode that makes his strength soar by leaps and bounds. After that, he was able to defeat the White Rabbit. However, the biggest twist is in the next scene, a mysterious character shows up and that character is Vergil who now is with the demons instead of the angels together with a big name like Mundus.
Season 2: Unconfirmed
Until now, Netflix has not given an official decision regarding season 2. Though many elements of the story are still hanging, especially about Vergil's position as the main enemy and the potential return of Mundus as the mastermind of the conflict as in the first DMC.
Creator Adi Shankar has previously mentioned that the series is indeed designed to run in multiple seasons, following the Castlevania format. If the audience performance is consistent, the opportunity for season 2 to be worked on is very open.
Netflix's Dante: More Mature, Still Quirky
Dante continued to perform with the circus humor and flamboyant fighting style so characteristic of him. But this adaptation adds an emotional layer: past wounds, family conflicts, as well as a crisis of identity as a man–devil. This character reminds me of the tired but still determined version of Dante from DMC 5.
Even the supporting characters have a strong influence, as each of them contributes their own substance and standing to the plot. Mary (Lady) comes with badass action and mental fortitude. Enzo gives a touch of comedy, while White Rabbit becomes an original antagonist who is quite iconic.
The series is filled with references for fans of the game: from Ebony & Ivory weapons, Rebellion Motors, to Devil Trigger visualizations made very stylish. However, new viewers will still be able to follow the storyline because the main focus of the series is on the Sparda family conflict and the war between dimensions.
One of the major points of the Devil May Cry Netflix version is the experiment of the voice actors. Dante's character is pretty much brought to life by Johnny Yong Bosch with his usual sparkling charm and liveliness. Mary gets a determined yet heartbreaking touch by the voice of Scout Taylor-Compton. In the role of Vergil, Robbie Daymond is exquisite, giving off a vibe of icy and intriguing. White Rabbit gets even more anxious in Hoon Lee's very passionate and intense voice, while Batman's legendary voice Kevin Conroy imparts great power and confidence to the character of VP Baines. We should also recall that Chris Coppola as Enzo is a great help in combining moments of laughs and love. Together they make every scene more vivid and emotional.
The Netflix anime of Devil May Cry is a marvelous experience not only for gamers but also for lovers of the gothic-style action and family stories laden with conflict. The show packed with flashy visuals, ruthless fighting, and a massive twist at the finale of the season is, in fact, successful in providing a captivating journey.
The series has been available to watch since April 3, 2024, so waiting is not an option. Maybe, you will be the first one to figure out the location of the next season.
Let's rock, baby.
