Flashspoter - Jeep has finally confirmed that the Jeep Recon 2026, their first Trail-Rated electric SUV, will go into production early next year. This certainty comes after a series of delays since it was first announced three years ago, an important moment for Jeep which is strengthening its electrification portfolio especially in the adventure segment.
It's the Recon that gets all the attention as the first electric SUV to carry the Trail Rated badge, a very special recognition for the Jeep family. To be awarded the badge, the vehicle has to be tested in very strict conditions that include traction, water fording, maneuverability, articulation, and ground clearance. Jeep makes it clear that even though The Recon is Electric, it is still made like a real 4x4.
On the power side, the Recon is equipped with 650 hp and 620 ft-lb of torque, a situation that is helped by an electric motor that delivers instantaneous acceleration. Jeep is confident in the performance of the Recon to the extent that it can do the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.6 seconds, along with a 100 kWh battery that has an estimated range of about 250 miles per charge, a distance that would be sufficient for daily commutes as well as longer outings.
Jeep has also loaded the Recon with a bunch of features that make it an off-road warrior. The SUV comes with 33-inch tires, a standard electric 4X4 system, as well as Selec-Terrain with five driving modes. The Moab variant, which is available exclusively in the US and Canada, gets extra features such as a 15:1 final drive ratio for more extreme torque multipliers and a front axle that can be disconnected for better efficiency.
For pure off-road Affairs, The Recon offers convincing figures: a ground clearance of 9.4 inches, an approach angle of 34 degrees, a departure angle of 34.5 degrees, as well as a breakover angle of 23.5 degrees. Locking differential, hill control system, to various climbing supporters make Recon more ready to face difficult terrain.
In terms of design, the Recon retains the iconic Jeep DNA. The seven-slot Grille appears more modern with LEDs, boxy proportions are maintained, and of course, the doors and rear glass can be removed without tools, a characteristic Jeep that Pampers fans of open-air activities. Jeep also offers roof options such as dual-pane sunroof and Sky One-Touch Power Top.
Going into the interior, the Recon combines a tough and modern look. A horizontal Dashboard with grab Handles, modular door panels, and large storage compartments show Jeep continues to prioritize functionality. The trunk capacity reaches 1,866 liters, plus 85 liters of frunk for additional storage purposes.
Jeep also made a big leap in the technology sector. The Recon carries more than 26 inches of total display, including a 12.3-inch digital cluster and a 14.5-inch horizontal touch screen, the largest ever mounted on a Jeep. The Uconnect 5 system comes with digital HVAC controls, advanced navigation, Amazon Alexa integration, to the Trails Offroad App with pitch-roll meter. There's also an EV-specific display that gives you real-time battery data and trip estimates.
The starting price of $65,000 puts the Recon slightly above the Wrangler plug-in hybrid and adjacent to the Wagoneer s EV. Production will be carried out at the Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico, along with the Wagoneer s, Compass and Cherokee hybrid models.
The launch of the Recon is part of Jeep's revival strategy after a downward trend in sales since 2018. While the global EV market is slowing due to the removal of federal incentives in the U.S., Jeep believes the Recon will be an important pillar in their electrification portfolio, alongside the Wagoneer S.
With a combination of powerful performance, distinctive Jeep design, and modern technology, Recon comes as the answer for adventure enthusiasts who want to move to electric vehicles without losing the soul of an authentic 4x4.
