Flashspoter - DJI has once again strengthened its position in the action camera market with the release of the Osmo Action 6, the third model in the past four months. This global launch does not cover the United States, but the markets of Europe, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia and several other regions are already gaining full access. With significant updates to sensors, lenses and recording capabilities, the Osmo Action 6 becomes a direct competitor to the GoPro Hero 13 Black and the latest Insta360 line.
One of the significant changes to the Osmo Action 6 is the introduction of a variable aperture of f/2.0 to f/4.0, which is a feature that has not been featured in any mainstream action camera. In the previous generations, including the Osmo Action 5 Pro, the aperture was fixed at f/2.8. By having a wider aperture at f/2.0, the device is capable of letting in more light, it allows for higher shutter speeds to be used, and the video quality gets enhanced in low light situations. On the other hand, in extremely bright scenarios, the f/4.0 setting works to keep the shutter speed at a normal level without the necessity of an additional ND filter.
Additionally, DJI decided to put a new 1/1.1-inch sensor in this camera, which is bigger than the 1/1.3-inch sensor in the previous models. This is a box-shaped sensor that makes it possible to shoot videos in different aspect ratios and it can be 1:1 square or vertical formats, which are especially handy for social media content. The camera is capable of 4K recording at 120fps in 4:3 ratio and 240fps at 1080p maximum. For ultra slow-motion needs, users can also reach 960fps through interpolation.
The internal system is also upgraded with 50GB of internal storage, up slightly from the previous generation. A microSD Slot remains available with support for up to 1TB. DJI claims the 1,950 mAh battery can last up to 4 hours of recording at 1080p/24fps, while 4K recording generally results in a duration of around 2 hours. The camera is still capable of operating up to -20°C and is waterproof to a depth of 20 meters without an additional case.
In terms of design, the Osmo Action 6 retains a similar shape to its predecessor, but now uses a larger and more responsive 2.5-inch OLED rear screen. The 1.46-inch front screen is retained for vlogging needs. The total weight is at 149 grams, remaining light for extreme activities as well as mounting on a helmet, chest, or vehicle.
DJI also brings improvements to the RockSteady 3.0 and 3+ stabilization systems, which are claimed to be more efficient without enlarging the crop. In practice, stabilization keeps recordings smooth for walking, running, or other outdoor activities. The built-in audio system gets an upgrade so that the sound sounds fuller, while compatibility with the DJI Mic Mini and DJI Mic 2 makes this camera more practical for content creators.
Another new feature is Film Tone, an internal color processing mode with six visual styles. The camera also supports 10-bit D-Log M, giving extensive flexibility for grading in advanced video production. In addition, there are additional lens options such as macro, ND filter set, and FOV Boost that widens the viewing angle to 182 degrees.
Omos Action 6, as far as availability is concerned, is scheduled for launch on November 18, 2025. The cost of the Standard Combo in the UK was set at £329, whereas Australia priced it at AU$669. The Adventure Combo package that includes three batteries and additional accessories is priced at £415 / AU$839. DJI confirmed that the absence of this product from official stores in the United States is related to the adjustment of the strategy in the region, but it will still be available through a number of third-party retailers such as Amazon and B&H Photo.
With a combination of a large sensor, variable aperture, advanced stabilization and a practical design, the DJI Osmo Action 6 emerges as one of the most complete action cameras in its class. Its presence adds new options for users who want high image quality with the flexibility of multidimensional content capture, both for extreme adventure and professional content needs.
